Massive layoffs in Minnesota have now exceeded last year’s record according to fresh data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

So far, in 2023, there have been 5,231 jobs cut in Minnesota. This is already far more than the number of job losses in 2022.

Last year, there were just 1525 jobs lost in the state,” reports Ash Jurberg.

“The layoffs in Minnesota continued in September, with several more businesses announcing layoffs across the month.

  • La Terraza. Jobs cut in Mankato
  • Soul Bowl. Jobs cut in Richfield
  • KPFG. 62 jobs cut in Foley
  • Hub Bike Co-op . 10 jobs cut in Minneapolis
  • Dangerous Man Brewing. 28 jobs cut in Minneapolis
  • MercyOne Clinic. Jobs cut in Albert Lea
  • TJ Maxx. 75 jobs cut in St. Paul

Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, an employer with more than 100 full-time workers must provide a 60-day notice before laying off 50 or more people at a single site.”

State data shows the more than 6,000 employees were laid off within the first five months in 2018, Minnesota’s current record high.

California remains the #1 state with the most layoffs in the country.

In second place is Colorado followed by Illinois, Washington, New York, Texas, New Jersey, Florida, Michigan, and Massachusetts.
