AMC Now Gets Massive Upgrade by Fitch Ratings

AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) has now received a massive upgrade by Fitch Ratings, leading provider for financial markets analysis.

On September 8, 2026, Fitch Ratings assigned AMC Entertainment and its companies a first-time Long-Term Issuer Default Ratings (IDRs) of ‘B-‘ with a “Positive Outlook”.

The company once speculated by Wall Street giants to go bankrupt due to the aftermath of the COVID19 pandemic is proving financial experts wrong yet again.

The rating reflects AMC’s leading market position, broad theater footprint, and strong exposure to premium formats, which support attendance, pricing, and operating leverage as the box office recovers, as reported by Fitch Ratings.

Why the upgrade?

The Positive Outlook reflects Fitch’s expectation for continued box office recovery, with performance approaching pre-pandemic levels and AMC’s ability to monetize attendance through pricing and concessions, supporting revenue growth and margin expansion.

CEO Adam Aron Boasts Fitch Ratings

AMC CEO Adam Aron shares thoughts on latest Fitch Ratings.

AMC CEO Adam Aron has taken to X to share another round of positive developments for the movie theater chain.

The news comes just days after his online feud with Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev.

Aron stated:

“More good news about AMC’s business prospects.

This new rating of our debt by the prominent ratings agency Fitch meshes with that of Standard & Poor‘s, which upgraded AMC’s debt in July.”

The latest Fitch Ratings only bolsters AMC’s previous upgrade by the S&P.

In July 2026, S&P Global Ratings upgraded AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. credit rating to ‘B-‘ from ‘CCC+’ due to improved operating performance, lowered debt, and a recovering box office.

Just two days before the Fitch Ratings went public, Aron gave another finger to critics.

He stated, “August 2026 had the highest industry-wide domestic box office grosses for any month of August since record keeping started 50 years ago. See for yourself: https://boxofficemojo.com

What Retail Investors Are Saying

Retail investors have been overjoyed by the latest AMC news, cheering the development as AMC’s stock price finds a footing around the $2.50 range.

“And AMC will be vertically integrated in no time, picking the best of the next generation of film makers unconstrained by big studios,” said user Saint Snap on X.

That’s right, AMC will now be going into the distribution business.

After the success of self-released concert films from Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, the theater chain is launching its own film distribution label, Leawood Films, which will be led by former Warner Bros. film chairman Toby Emmerich.

“The work put in is undeniable at this point.

Looking At AMC’s Stock Performance

AMC’s share price has recently consolidated within the $2.50 range, unable to completely break through that $3 level, yet.

This year-to-date, AMC stock is up over 52%.

When zooming out however, retail investors are still recovering from the dilution over the years that kept AMC Entertainment alive.

Many still hold a personal vendetta against the CEO for their losses.

Unlike other CEOs and company’s, AMC Entertainment has a real business with proven success that points towards growth in the right direction — both for the company and for retail investors.

What I’d like to personally see at some point is for the company to issue a dividend where it pays investors quarterly.

For long-term investors, this is the winning case.

While many are still holding their AMC shares for a short squeeze, the company’s fundamentals are definitely a catalyst.

What’s Next for AMC Entertainment?

AMC Entertainment is on a strong path towards recovery as titles explode globally and moviegoers fill up the seats.

Wall Street was wrong.

And retail investors? Well, they’re still here. For AMC Entertainment, the future certainly seems bright.

The latest AMC Fitch Ratings coupled with the S&P Global Ratings prove the company is now on a sure path to thrive bigger than ever before.
