A US bank is now holding retirees SS (social security) money hostage according to reports from several users.
What is being done about it? Nothing so far, though many of these reports have been submitted to the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
“My funds are gone. I believe now the bank [Green Dot Bank] is holding it hostage. It’s my SS money and I can’t get it back, they keep extending the date.
I’ll get my new card with my money on it this has been going on since the August 1 and I was in the hospital when I was hacked..I want my money it’s mine not yours green dot,” says Sandra Machuga, who’s reported to FrankNez before.
“I have been waiting three weeks for my replacement card. On top of that they paid out $1,229.00.
Someone used my card in Washington at a Microsoft store. I feel it was a inside job. Soon as my SS check hit my bank it was withdrawn the next day.
They withdrew $304.80 four times and one withdrawal at $76.40 every fifteen minutes until they couldn’t get anymore. I did a dispute and they claim they didn’t get it.
My lights will be cut off and my car will be in report because I can’t
get my money. They won’t chat with me. I go on their chat page, no response back,” reports Cynthia Woodward.
Beth Williams, 78, says she has been a WMC cardholder for 10 years now and has been unable to gain access to her WMC/Green account since August 4.
“Since August 4th I have been unable to access my WMC debit card account. On August 3rd I noticed 2 unauthorized charges & immediately contacted WMC/Green. My account had to be frozen per CS/ RESOLUTION dept.
I have been calling and spending hours on hold to reach CS trying to find out when my expedited replacement card is arriving! CS has given to me 4 extended dates when I’ll get my replacement card.
The flimsy CS explanations: 1st-upgrade system & 2nd having technical difficulties! I was told today by CS that the card is to arrive on or before August 27th, and by standard mailing. I am panicking and afraid that I’m being lied to,” she reported to FrankNez.

Is Green Dot Bank Stealing Money From Customers?
Many customers allege Green Dot Bank has either been hacked or are stealing people’s money through a series of insider fraudulent activity.
These bank customers are losing access to hundreds and even thousands of dollars, which is rightfully theirs to begin with.
“Green dot took me and thousands of peoples money. None of us can access it. WE HAVE SHIITTT TO PAY,” said one user on Saturday.
“For the first 2 months of having Greendot everything was great. Then I go and try to use my card and it’s declined. The dumb b!** said to wait an hour or day. ITS BEEN A WEEK!! I feel terrible for the people who’ve lost hundred of $$,” says Anna.
Another bank customer says, “Over $1400 gone.. not in fraudulent charges, just gone. Can’t get a hold of customer service… This is absolutely ridiculous.”
Many Green Dot Bank customers have reached out to me with their stories asking for my thoughts on what they should do.
For now, the best thing affected customers can do is report the banking activity to the BBB and raise awareness on the situation in efforts to hold the bank accountable.
The bank, which says it has 33 million customers, is being scrutinized by the Better Business Bureau over a “pattern and influx of complaints against Green Dot”.
However, the bank’s alarming activities persist. And after reading what customers have to say, it is in my opinion that this bank needs to be investigated.

I have had this exact problem! I finally was able to force them to release funds and issue new card. As soon as I activated my card I withdrew money and closed green dot account but first went into SSA office and requested my benefits to be sent elsewhere! My husband and I dealt with this problem at first trying to resolve with green dot on the phone daily sending them documents requested. They claimed they never recieved them. I never talked to same person always refusing to give me anything but a first name. This went on for months. I tried calling BBB the Attorney General filing complaints with both. Then found Consumer Financial Protection Bureau 855-411-2372 ! Everything was taken care of in less than a week. If not for this institution we would have ended up being evicted for non payment of rent as it was we had to pay late fees for all our monthly utilities as well! Please try to get this number to those in need!!!
Well after doing some research into them, I would NEVER have done business with them. They had over a dozen lawsuits stemming back to mid-2000. They are a TEXAS Corp besides!
