A massive grocery chain is now closing more stores after eliminating 32 underperforming locations back in 2024.
The reason for the previous grocery store closures?
It was part of the companies strategizing plan to improve its profitability.
Now in 2026, the company has announced another wave of store closures.
Stop & Shop, owned by the Dutch grocery behemoth Ahold Delhaize, is closing supermarket stores in Basking Ridge and Westfield, New Jersey, per New Jersey 101.5.
The Stop & Shop locations will remain open until some time this fall.
Spokesperson Jennifer Brogan said the “difficult decision” about the Bernards store was made after a “routine evaluation of our store operations.”
Bernards Township Committeewoman Ana Duarte McCarthy said the chain’s lease at the Lyons Mall is up in October.
While a new tenant is already preparing a plan for the space, McCarthy did not disclose the name of the new potential tenant.
