A famous hotel is now closing a major location in California after over 50 years in business, leaving customers in shock with the decision.
A Hilton hotel location has announced its closure after over 50 years of business, leaving many disappointed customers.
Previous guests said they visited the area before it was taken over by crime.
Park Hotels and Resorts announced the August 28 closure of the Hilton Hotel near the Oakland, California Airport, according to ABC affiliate WABC.
“We understand that the hospitality sector continues to be negatively impacted by larger economic trends post-pandemic, and as the owner of this site the Port will be seeking the best Port use for this property moving forward,” the Port of Oakland said in a statement.
“The Port will work with the facility operators and the City of Oakland about assistance that can be offered to employees who might be affected by this closure.”
The Port of Oakland, which owns the land, confirmed the shutdown.
There wasn’t a reason given for the closure, but restaurants in the area have shut down, blaming crime as one of the causes.
The hotel had been in business for 56 years, since 1969.
Some past customers were upset by the closure, while others reflected on the state of the town.
“What a shame,” one tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
However, another saw it coming.
“Not surprised,” they shared, in part.
Others considered what Oaktown was like with a few labeling it as a “ghost town.”
“San Francisco is going to be a ghost town if it’s not already. So many stores businesses closing or leaving,” wrote another.
“Becoming a ghost town,” stated a user.
“The whole city is shutting down,” a person said.
The U.S. Sun reports that it has contacted Hilton for comment.

Eight other locations were sold to former CEO Ray Blanchette, a longtime stakeholder who will acquire the previously corporate-owned restaurants.
