3 unexpected restaurants now close in Maryland due to a rise in crime in the surrounding area, sources are confirming.
Three of Chef Ashish Alfred’s Baltimore restaurants will be closing following the shooting of a 16-year old down the street from his restaurant.
Duck Duck Goose, Osteria Pizza, and Anchor Tavern, located in Fells Point, a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland, will all be temporarily closed.
Chef Alfred posted a statement to his customers explaining the reasoning behind the closures, thanking them for their service, and expressing hope for a future reopening.
“For the past 7 years, you’ve welcomed my staff and me into your lives through our food and service,” the statement began.
Alfred went on to detail why he chose to make Baltimore his home and the “incredible journey” watching the city turn into a “dining Mecca.”
“I’ve stood tall as a champion and a voice for our incredible city and for what I believe to be right.”
“My team and I have served you through riots, floods, a pandemic, and not too long ago one of my most talented waitresses found herself struck by a stray bullet just steps away from Duck Duck Goose after finishing work.”
“Through it all,” Alfred continued.
“I have found a way to create memorable experiences for the hardworking people of this city and for those who come to visit.”
“However, given the recent events in Fells Point, I feel it’s in the best interest of my businesses, my clients, and the incredibly hardworking people on my team for us to simply ‘press pause’ briefly while the city works to remedy the safety concerns of Baltimore so we can once again feel at ease.”
Alred ended the statement by expressing his optimism for the future, along with the staff’s eagerness to get back to work.
“We cannot wait to serve you again, Baltimore.”
