The SEC is now targeting Elon Musk in a new Twitter probe, it’s latest attack on the SpaceX and Tesla CEO.
On Friday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced its intention to seek sanctions against Elon Musk for failing to appear for scheduled testimony related to its investigation into his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, now known as X.
In a court filing, the SEC indicated that it would request a ruling to determine why Musk should not be held in civil contempt.
Musk’s legal team responded by labeling the potential sanctions as “drastic” and unnecessary, noting that his testimony has already been rescheduled.
At the time he was supposed to testify, Musk was in Cape Canaveral, Florida, overseeing the launch of SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission.
The SEC’s investigation focuses on whether Musk violated federal securities laws when he purchased shares of Twitter in 2022.
The agency previously sued Musk last October after he declined to participate in an interview regarding the probe.
Musk has characterized the SEC’s actions as attempts to “harass” him through subpoenas.
Journalist Dom Lucre believes Elon Musk is being targeted.
“The U.S. government is officially targeting Elon Musk. The SEC will sanction Elon Musk in its Twitter acquisition probe. Joe Biden threatened Elon on September 10, 2023 and now we know why,” he stated on X.
The SEC has attacked Elon Musk for years now following the CEO’s criticism of the agencies incompetence.
