An iconic restaurant now closes a famous location in California after almost six decades in business, sources confirm.
Arby’s has announced the closure of one of its most iconic locations.
The shuttered restaurant had been a key fixture on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, Los Angeles for almost six decades, reports The US Sun.
Marilyn Leviton, 91, opened the diner in 1969 and has run it for 55 years.
However, the location has now closed its doors for good, wishing customers and the city “farewell.”
“Farewell Hollywood. TY for 55 great years,” a sign outside the Arby’s location read on Monday morning.
The Roast Beef restaurant officially shuttered on Saturday.
Leviton has said the closure comes after struggles caused by the pandemic, the state’s minimum wage increase, and other business costs including equipment upgrades ordered by chiefs.
“I’m awfully sorry that it came to this,” the former owner told KTLA News.
“Truth is, I think it was the pandemic that did us in. I really feel we would have closed during the pandemic [if it weren’t] for the federal loans,” Leviton said.
“I think we did a good job for 55 years.”
While customers have taken to Facebook calling the closure the “end of an era,” others want to preserve part of the diner that has become a historic landmark.
Outside of the Arby’s restaurant, there is a large iconic neon sign in the shape of a cowboy hat.
“Those giant Arby’s Roast Beef neon signs are slowly disappearing throughout the country. I hope at least one sign will be saved,” one customer wrote.
“Why don’t they just let it live as an iconic neon sign/ sculpture?” another suggested.
“LA never holds onto its history see: brown derby ripped apart and buried by strip malls.”
Numerous Hollywood residents suggested the sign be picked up by local museums.
Meanwhile, others shared their memories of the location.

“We are at the helm of a pivotal moment that will allow us to explore boundless advancement, expansion, and innovation to keep delivering ‘That Fridays Feeling’ that our fans know and love.”
Before the closures, TGI Fridays had about 270 US locations, according to the company’s website.
“As part of the store closures, TGI Fridays is offering more than 1,000 transfer opportunities, which represents over 80% of total impacted employees,” the company previously said in a statement.
“Our top priority has always been delivering a superior experience for each and every TGI Fridays guest, and we’ve identified opportunities to optimize and streamline our operations to ensure we are best positioned to meet – and exceed – on that brand promise,” said Ray Risley, US president and chief operating officer, in the release.
Eight other locations were sold to former CEO Ray Blanchette, a longtime stakeholder who will acquire the previously corporate-owned restaurants.
The sale comes as major changes have been made to the brand’s leadership, including the news of Weldon Spangler being made CEO.
“As we continue along our path of transformation to revitalize the Fridays brand and implement a long-term growth strategy, we see a bright future for TGI Fridays,” said Spangler in a statement.
