Pizza Hut is Now Closing 250 Locations Nationwide

Pizza Hut is now closing 250 locations nationwide, joining the economic and business trend of stores closing across the United States.

Pizza Hut has approximately 19,985 locations worldwide, including roughly 6,000 locations in the United States.

Now the restaurant chain says it is closing underperforming locations as consumer budgets shift.

When Will Pizza Hut Close Locations?

Pizza Hut will close approximately 250 locations during the first half of 2026 as part of its parent company’s strategic review of the brand, per Yum! Brands.

Yum! Brands announced that they would be closing about 250 underperforming stores in the first half of 2026 and also indicated they were considering a possible sale of Pizza Hut.

There is no official public record provided by Yum! Brands of the actual amount of closures, which could be more throughout 2026, but the company did announce they sold Pizza Hut to LongRange Capital (except in China, where Pizza Hut is now owned by Yum China Holdings).

FinanceBuzz reported numerous locations nationwide have been affected.

Pizza Hut will close various locations across the United States including:

  • California — Riverside, Bakersfield, Fresno, Fontana, and others
  • Florida — Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, and others
  • Georgia — Atlanta
  • Illinois — Chicago
  • Indiana — Indianapolis
  • Michigan — Detroit
  • Missouri — St. Louis
  • New York — Albany, Rochester, Syracuse
  • North Carolina — Charlotte
  • Ohio — Columbus, Cleveland, Beavercreek
  • Pennsylvania — Philadelphia
  • Texas — Dallas, Houston
  • Virginia — Richmond
  • Washington — Seattle

The restaurant closures will affect major states in the U.S. including some of their most popular cities.

Why Are Pizza Hut Locations Closing?

Pizza Hut locations are closing underperforming restaurants and focusing on restructuring their finances.

The company’s “Hut Forward” plan was announced by chief financial officer Ranjith Roy during the company’s earnings call earlier this year.

The program includes “vibrant marketing, modernization of technology, and franchise agreements.”

Roy said “Hut Forward” “represents a bridge to longer-term acceleration of the brand.”

One of the biggest reasons Pizza Hut is closing locations is due to a decline in sales globally, not just in the states.

Pizza Hut closed 68 locations in the United Kingdom last October and its operator in India also halted growth plans amid growing losses.

For the full year 2025, Pizza Hut’s system sales declined to $3.47 billion, from $3.61 billion at the end of 2024, while its global unit count was 19,974 compared to 20,225 at the end of 2024.

The declines, Roy said, were driven by “specific franchise situations that resulted in elevated Q4 store closures.”

What Happens to Pizza Hut Now?

While Pizza Hut may continue to close locations as the company sees fit, it’s not the end for the company.

The financial restructuring should help the company reassess its capital allocations and focus on sharpening high-performing restraurants.

The pruning is a restaurant chain trend we see growing over the next few years.
