LOCAL NEWS: A pedestrian has now been airlifted after being struck by a vehicle in Piñon Hills and sent directly to a trauma center.
A male pedestrian was airlifted to a hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday night, November 17, 2024, around 8:03 PM.
The incident took place on Highway 138 near Evergreen Road in the Piñon Hills community, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Upon arriving at the scene, personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department discovered the man lying in the roadway, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
Recognizing the need for immediate medical attention, they quickly arranged for air transport to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
Initially, the Reach 13 helicopter was dispatched to the scene to provide rapid transport.
However, due to an unspecified issue, the helicopter had to abort its mission.
This led to the deployment of the Mercy Air 22 helicopter, which successfully arrived and transported the injured pedestrian to the trauma center.
The helicopter’s landing zone was established at Stater Bros, a grocery store in the nearby community of Phelan, facilitating a smooth transfer to medical care.
Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles pulled over on the side of the highway, but it remains unclear whether either vehicle was involved in the accident.
