Another grocery store chain has now joined a major Trader Joe’s recall pertaining to a Salmonella outbreak tied to products from Mexico.

Whole Foods Market joins the growing list of grocery store chains recalling products across the United States.

The products come from Mexican cuisine favorites such as salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, and prepared foods containing jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors.

The Food and Drug Administration published the announcement on August 12 warning of the fatal outbreak, stating, “Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

“The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors.

A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies to Coast Citrus Distributors was identified as the potential source in this outbreak FDA is currently investigating…”

Whole Foods products affected sold online and in Produce and Prepared Foods departments across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, and Ohio.

Best Before Buy dates ranged from August 7 through August 16.

The grocery store chain said no illnesses have been reported in connection with its recalled products.

Trader Joe's Jalapeno recall

The latest Whole Foods recall is connected to the same Kroger, Walmart, Target, Stop & Shop, and Trader Joe’s recall, all stemming from Coast Citrus Distributors.

Consumers are recommended to not eat the recalled Whole Foods products and instead discard or return them to a Whole Foods location for a full refund.

The exact products being recalled at these grocery store chains include:

  • Kroger products include a Private Selection spicy roast beef sandwich, spicy Jarlsberg dip, and spicy pimento cheese dip.
  • At Walmart, affected products include Freshness Guaranteed mild and spicy pico de gallo sold in several states.
  • Target products include taco dip, mango pico de gallo, spicy guacamole, pico de gallo, and authentic guacamole.
  • Trader Joe’s recalled its Fiesta Style Salad with Shrimp in Texas, while Whole Foods is affected through several salsa and pico de gallo products sold in Illinois and Texas.
  • Hannaford and Stop & Shop are also affected by the following products: diced jalapeños, a rice-and-bean burrito, and pico de gallo salsa.

Restaurants such as Chipotle and fast-casual Mexican chain QDOBA also received jalapeños imported by Coast Citrus, per reports.

You can check out the complete FDA listing, which provides UPC codes, affected states, and best-by dates for each product.

“The recalled products were sold online and, in the Produce and Prepared Foods departments in the following states: TX, OK, LA, AR, WI, MI, IL, IN, IA, MO, KY, and OH, with Best Before/By dates of 8/7/2026 – 8/16/2026,” reported the Food and Drug Administration.

“No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.”
