An Unexpected Restaurant Is Now Closing 11 Locations in Florida

An unexpected restaurant is now closing 11 locations in Florida after being unable to recover from ongoing financial hardship.

Tijuana Flats confirmed 11 locations are shutting their doors across Florida.

Last month Florida-based company Tijuana Flats announced it was filing for bankruptcy and that it was acquired by Flatheads, LLC.

Now it’s revealing that a total of 11 locations across Florida are now closing for good.

This includes restaurants in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, West Palm Beach, and more.

The company cited changes to its 2021 menu as the culprit, reported FinanceBuzz.

With a different menu came a higher demand for more equipment and staff, according to the outlet.

This led to an uptick in costs and slower service at the fast-casual chain.

The U.S. Sun previously reported on reasoning behind the closures, including financial performance, occupancy costs, and market conditions of each unit.

As devastated customers struggle to cope with news of the closures, a rise in food prices had already driven some away months ago, reports the outlet.

“I’ve eaten there since 2003 and used to love their food but yeah the prices have increased and the quality has gone down in my opinion,” wrote one Reddit user in a thread speculating on the chain’s prices.

Another user documented price increases over the years, claiming the restaurant raised its prices 60% over a six year period.

“This is how I remember it, correct me if I’m wrong,” they wrote and claimed the price of Tijuana Tuesday — a promotional deal offered weekly in store and on app — went from $4.99 to $7.99 over time.

” I went a few months ago and I couldn’t believe how small everything got,” said another.

Other customers say they noticed the increase, but wouldn’t let inflation come between them and their favorite restaurant.

As fans mourn the loss of some locations, several others of the Chipotle rival remain in the Sunshine State.

There are still at least 89 other Tijuana Flats’ available across the Florida, according to its website.

Another massive retailer is now closing due to crime despite its location being a community staple for several years.

Rampant theft has led Walgreens to permanently close one of its major locations at the White Oak Shopping Center in Maryland, reports The-Sun.

Staff and shoppers told ABC affiliate WJLA-TV that the store was closed due to high rates of theft and crime.

Mobile security cameras were recently added by police in the parking lot around stores in the shopping center.

A source also told WJLA-TV that the shopping center’s management company had to fire their security company and hire a new one.

Just last year, there was an armed robbery inside Walgreens, resulting in a man and a woman taking an unknown amount of money and products.

Robberies have become a major problem in the area as stores get ransacked by violent thieves.

A resident told the outlet she was too scared to leave her car in the shopping center’s parking lot.

She says she saw another woman get assaulted and robbed.

“You can simply be walking and they take your purse and start running and they leave you with nothing,” said Sarah Rodriguez.

“That’s why when I’m here before I get out of my car I always look around first.”

Walgreens corporate execs announced earlier this year that about 150 stores will be closed throughout the US.

This would reduce the company’s corporate staff by about 10%, resulting in over 500 positions being eliminated.

News of a replacement for the store in the White Oak Shopping Center hasn’t been announced.

However, the center has been struggling to replace the Sears location that has sat vacant for over three years.

“Yeah, it’s not good, because everyone is complaining,” said resident Kokou Eafbo.

“This is the only pharmacy we have in this area and suddenly they close, we don’t understand.”

The shopping center had once been a thriving area full of shops in Montgomery County, reports The US Sun.
