A Home Improvement Chain Now Makes An Unexpected Closure

A home improvement chain now makes an unexpected closure, initiating massive discounts on all items, sources confirm.

A family-owned furniture retailer with a history spanning over 80 years is preparing to close one of its most well-known locations.

The company, Conlin’s, is holding significant sales with steep discounts to clear out inventory before permanently shutting the doors of its Grand Forks store on South Washington Street following a final sale.

The decision to close the store is attributed to a marked increase in online shopping and rising inflation.

Melanie Stone, an event manager assisting with the store’s closure, noted that the traffic of customers has noticeably decreased, leading to a decline in urgency to make purchases.

Despite this closure, Conlin’s will continue operating 14 other stores across various states that remain unaffected.

While there is no official closing date yet, the Grand Forks location is currently selling its entire inventory at reduced prices.

The building itself is also up for sale, according to reports from GrandForksHerald.

Stone expressed that the store has been an integral part of the community, framing the closure as a celebration and a final chance for customers to make purchases.

Many eligible employees at the site will be transferred to other locations within the chain.

Founded in 1937 in Williston, N.D., Conlin’s has consistently been a family-run business for eight decades.

The retailer operates in several states, including California, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming.

This closure is part of a broader trend, as numerous retailers across the U.S. have announced significant shutdowns following bankruptcy filings this year.

For instance, Big Lots recently confirmed its Chapter 11 filing and detailed plans to close around 545 stores.

Similarly, LL Flooring will shut down half of its over 400 locations after a quiet bankruptcy filing and revert to its previous name under new ownership.

Other clothing retailers have also taken comparable steps.
