A massive company is now closing locations in Indiana after announcements were made of mass shutters due to a legal dispute.
Nearly 150 Pizza Hut locations are set to close due to an ongoing financial dispute with one of its major franchisees, EYM Group.
On Friday night, a total of 15 Pizza Hut restaurants in Indiana abruptly shut down, leaving employees and customers in shock.
However, the closures were part of a larger issue affecting another 129 locations across several states.
EYM Group, which operates 144 Pizza Hut restaurants across five states, is tied in a legal battle with the pizza chain over millions of dollars in unpaid bills.
EYM defaulted on a $3 million payment in 2022 and an additional $2.6 million in 2023, per court filings.
As a result, Pizza Hut filed a lawsuit on June 7, detailing its plans to take over the franchisee’s locations if debts went unpaid.
Indiana’s payments were due last Wednesday, June 12.
Two days later, when EYM failed to meet the deadline, 15 locations were closed.
The franchisee has attributed its financial struggles to corporate strategies, claiming Pizza Hut’s recent menu changes and promotions have failed to keep up with competitors, per the Daily Mail.
EYM’s lawsuit, filed in March, criticized the company for lackluster initiatives such as changing the cheese in its stuffed crust from mozzarella to cheddar and introducing unsuccessful appetizers like the Philly steak melt.

TGI Fridays is closing a total of seven restaurants in one state as part of the company’s ongoing growth strategy.

Before the closures, TGI Fridays had about 270 US locations, according to the company’s website.
“As part of the store closures, TGI Fridays is offering more than 1,000 transfer opportunities, which represents over 80% of total impacted employees,” the company previously said in a statement.
“Our top priority has always been delivering a superior experience for each and every TGI Fridays guest, and we’ve identified opportunities to optimize and streamline our operations to ensure we are best positioned to meet – and exceed – on that brand promise,” said Ray Risley, US president and chief operating officer, in the release.
Eight other locations were sold to former CEO Ray Blanchette, a longtime stakeholder who will acquire the previously corporate-owned restaurants.
The sale comes as major changes have been made to the brand’s leadership, including the news of Weldon Spangler being made CEO.
