A pedestrian was tragically struck and killed by a Tesla in Phelan on the evening of November 12, with new updates now surfacing.
The pedestrian was struck on Highway 138 around 5:36 PM.
The accident took place west of the I-15 freeway, near Dusty Lane.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a 2024 Tesla parked on the right shoulder of the highway and an individual lying on the road.
Despite efforts to save the pedestrian, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Tesla’s windshield was severely damaged, and personal items, including a shoe and clothing, were scattered across the highway.
To protect passing motorists, westbound lanes were closed for over an hour while officers set up flares and cones around the area.
According to logs from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of the Tesla was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with serious injuries.
The San Bernardino County Coroner was notified, and the deceased’s identity will be made public once their next of kin have been informed.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the CHP’s Inland Division, with further updates expected.
Initial investigations indicated that a gray 2024 Tesla Model 3, driven by a male from Mira Loma at around 65 mph, collided with a male pedestrian from Phelan who was walking in the lane.
The driver was hospitalized and is expected to recover.
Officer A. Lujan from the San Bernardino CHP is leading the investigation.
