Netflix Jobs Now Take A Hit Amid 1,000 Layoffs
Netflix jobs have now taken a massive hit amidst the company’s latest 1,000 layoffs, marking one of its largest cuts since 2022.
Why is Netflix laying off employees? WSJ cites the company’s “struggles with slowing growth and customer engagement.”
But that’s not all, VP Doug Belgrad and CCO Bela Bajaria are also out.
Which Netflix jobs are being affected?
Co-Chief Executives Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos said in an email to employees Wednesday morning that the bulk of the cuts would be in the streaming giant’s product, tech, legal and human-resources teams.
Vice President of Film Doug Belgrad and executive Sheroum Kim are among those departing.
In TV, several original series directors and leadership roles were eliminated.
Key marketing leadership, including Kelly Caton (Senior Director of Series Awards Strategy & Publicity) and Dominic Pagone (Director of Entertainment Communications), lost their roles alongside significant team cuts.
Greg Lombardo, head of the physical attraction division Netflix House, is also stepping down.
The reorganization follows strategic shifts in gaming, where Netflix recently closed its Helsinki studio (Moonloot) and Night School Studio.
Key Decisions Behind the Recent Netflix Layoffs
According to the company, there are a few key reasons behind these Netflix jobs being lost, including:
- Slowing Engagement Growth: Co-CEO Ted Sarandos noted at an industry event that the service is “not growing as fast as I want us to”. Total viewing hours rose just 2% year-over-year in the first half of 2026, while watch time share slipped against heavy competition like YouTube
- Resource Reallocation: Management framed the layoffs as an operational discipline measure to reallocate funds away from overhead and toward “high-impact areas”, such as live sports, live channels, creator-led video content, and regional distribution deals.
- Pre-Earnings Realignment: The announcement was made a week before Netflix’s Q3 earnings report, giving investors clear visibility on structural cost controls while reaffirming full-year financial forecasts.
Deadline revealed that Lisa Lang McMullen, James Oh, Andrew McQuinn and Carolina Garcia, who were all part of Netflix’s scripted division, were let go alongside a number of managers including Dan Evans, Jason Pan and Aaron Davidson.
A Look At Netflix’s Financials

Netflix jobs may have taken a hit, but the company’s underlying financial performance remains strong and profitable.
The company generated $45.2 billion in revenue and $11 billion in net income for 2025 (up 16% and 26% year-over-year, respectively), with strong momentum continuing into 2026 as Q2 revenue grew 13% year-over-year to $12.56 billion.
Full-year 2026 revenue is projected to reach $51.0–$51.4 billion alongside healthy operating margins above 31%, anchored by rapid growth in its ad-supported tier and international expansion.

However, with engagement and watch-time growth slowing down to around 2%, leadership is treating the layoffs not as a response to financial distress, but as a deliberate operational shift—trimming administrative overhead to reallocate capital into high-growth, high-impact areas like live events, creator content, and advertising tech.
