A massive retailer is now closing a major location in Maryland soon, offering up to 50% discounts before its imminent shutdown.
Customers who have frequented the Walmart store on Putty Hill Avenue in Towson, Maryland, about 16 miles north of downtown Baltimore, will have to look for other locations nearby as of April 5, reports The-Sun.
The closest location to the soon-to-be-axed store in the Towson Place shopping center is a Walmart Supercenter in Perry Hill, about five miles east.
Some shoppers may be closer to the Cockeysville store, about seven miles northwest.
Before they have to make that decision, many customers at the Towson store have taken to social media to let others know about the best sales going on right now before time runs out.
A frequent shopper noted in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that there were sales as high as 50% off and that they’d been there at least two times in the same day to take advantage.
Another said there were 25% discounts on electronics aside from Apple products.
Considering some comments from multiple customers who claimed the “shelves are clear” at the Towson Walmart, those trying to get discounts should act fast.
Several were also left in pure disbelief that the closure was set.
“Towson Walmart closing in April…never thought I’d see the day,” someone wrote.
“They really closing the Towson Walmart that’s crazy,” another added.
A third seemed to be expecting the announcement, asking, “what took them so long?”
“I’m not surprised at all,” a different customer added.
It begs the question, why is the closure happening?
Walmart cited “financial performance” among other reasons like “customer needs” and “location” while speaking to CBS News.
Some shoppers were fuming over what that meant for the Towson Walmart’s over 200 employees, who would now seemingly be out of their jobs.
The company confirmed that the staff would have the opportunity to transition to another Walmart location with assistance.
Employees would also continue to be paid until June 14 and receive a severance if they do not transfer to a different Walmart.

A famous drink retailer is now closing a major location due to fears of rising crime in the area, sources confirm.
A Starbucks location will close down on Saturday as high crime rates hit in busy downtown Maryland areas, reports The-Sun.
“Coffee lovers who crave a caffeine fix have just hours left to visit the Starbucks in Silver Springs — before it closes for good.”
The iconic coffee shop will be shuttering its doors after serving the community for more than two decades, according to local ABC affiliate WJLA.
Visitors could see a simple closure announcement taped to the window of the locale over the last month.
“On March 30 at 12pm, your Starbucks Downtown Silver Springs location at 315 Ellsworth Drive will be permanently closing,” the statement read.
“We would like to thank you for being part of our store community; You are the heart of who we are at Starbucks,” it said.
Employees have been given the option to be relocated to other Starbucks locations if they desire.
According to company leadership, the closure was necessary.
“As part of Starbucks standard course of business, we continually evaluate our business to ensure a healthy store portfolio.
After careful consideration, we’ve determined it is best to close the store at 915 Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring,” Starbucks Corporation representatives told local reporters.
But business owners working in the area believe the closure is due to one big problem — crime.
At least nine police reports were filed from the shopping center where the Silver Springs Starbucks is located since January 2023, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
The crimes committed include several instances of indecent exposure and theft, in addition to one robbery and one assault on a store employee.
