Gas Prices Near Their Highest Levels This Year

Gas prices are nearing their highest levels this year after the national average rose another $0.03 overnight.

The nationwide average price is currently sitting at $4.46 per gallon. California, Washington, and Hawaii currently hold the record for the states with the highest gas prices in the United States.

In areas like California, the average price is $6.14 per gallon while Washington’s is $5.56. And in Hawaii, gas prices average around $5.52 per gallon.

Friday’s price sits just 10 cents below the highest-level hit earlier this year, on May 21, when the national average was $4.56 per gallon.

They’re also not that far out from their all-time highest level of $5.01, which was reached in June 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine.

But six states currently have an average gas price of over $5, with California gas prices being the highest in the country.

Other states with high gas prices include Michigan, Utah, and Illinois.

When Will Gas Prices Go Down?

Gas Prices are nearing their all-time high. Americans grow frustrated as prices soar. Trump says prices will go down after midterms.
Gas Prices are nearing their all-time high. Americans grow frustrated as prices soar. Trump says prices will go down after midterms.

“Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward,” President Donald Trump said September 9.

Why are gas prices so high?

Gas prices overall have risen 50% nationwide since the U.S. and Israel attached Iran on February 28.

The price of diesel has also risen, hitting new all-time highs since it’s $6 per gallon on September 11.

As of Friday, the national average price of diesel was $6.44 after it rose 5 cents overnight.

The price per gallon of commercial fuel has surged 71% since the start of the Iran War.

And with just a few weeks left before the U.S. midterm elections, Americans grow frustrated over growing gas prices.

President Donald Trump previously claimed that his administration would be able to push gas prices below $2 per gallon.

The contrary has left many loyal voters critical of the false promises thus far.

How Americans Are Getting Past High Gas Prices

Americans are opting in for alternative gas stations like Costco where gas prices are significantly lower than others.

Circle K, Walmart, and Sam’s Club remain an alternative for Americans who want to save just under a dollar per gallon when filling up.

While the savings might not seem significant at first glance, they do add up.

At the end of the week and month, Americans can save anywhere between a few bucks to $100 to $200 per year.

Again, it may not look significant at first, but it does make a small difference for those looking to make the most out of their money.
