A famous restaurant chain now closes its last location in one state after it was announced it would be demolished and replaced.
Hooters is closing down its restaurant in Charleston, West Virginia – the chain’s last remaining location in the Mountain State.
The joint is being demolished and replaced with a Scheetz gas station – much to the distress of many loyal customers.
Hundreds of regulars gathered for a candlelit vigil on Friday, February 23, reports The-Sun.
Although the idea began as a joke started by locals on Facebook, it ended up having a serious purpose.
The event turned into a fundraiser for a woman in the community who needs medical treatment – as well as a farewell to the beloved eatery.
Outside, former customers made chicken wings with Hooters wing sauce and served up copycats of its famous strip cheese sandwich.
Co-organizer of the vigil Leo Brown, told the crowd, “This building is a legitimate, iconic figure.”
“It’s a lot of memories going down with that building,” a former customer told local ABC affiliate WCHS-TV.
Others shared their sadness over the closure on social media.
One described it as “truly distressing” on Facebook.
“RIP to Hooters West Virginia,” said another on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Although the decision to close down came recently, the Charleston Hooters has not reopened since it was shuttered in March 2020.
It’s also not the only Hooters location to close down recently.
The chain also pulled the plug on its outlet in Lafayette, Louisiana after 25 years in January.
But the originator of the “breastaurant” format is not entirely on the decline.
It plans to open six new restaurants in 2024 – three in Las Vegas, Nevada, and three in Florida.

A beloved restaurant is now closing after 10 years in Chicago after being run by a Top Chef star, sources report.
The critically-acclaimed restaurant is closing its doors but dedicated fans won’t have to say goodbye forever, reports The-Sun.
Parachute, a Korean-American restaurant in Chicago, Illinois has been in business for nearly 10 years but on the eve of its anniversary, it was announced that it would pause operations.
The sad news came from the husband-wife duo, Johnny Clark and Beverly Kim, who run the establishment.
Parachute will be closed on March 23 as the couple has plans to renovate the space and launch a new concept under the Parachute brand, reports the outlet.
The couple is aiming to bring a larger location in the downtown Chicago area, however, no time frame has been announced.
“Our community and restaurant family made us great. At 10 years, we think there is an opportunity to serve both with fresh ideas after taking a pause.
Owning your evolution is important,” said Clark and Kim in a statement.
During its nearly decade run, Parachute has garnered several achievements, including a Michelin star and James Beard Foundation Awards for Clark and Kim.
James Beard Foundation Awards are given to recognize chefs, restauranteurs, authors, and journalists in the US.
It’s named after famed chef and TV personality, James Beard, who pioneered TV cooking shows and published more than 20 books.
Kim also appeared on season nine of the reality competition, Top Chef, in 2011.
She finished in fourth place in the show.
“Ten years makes for an incredible ride.
The years have afforded us the dream of opening our first restaurant and expressing our personal perspectives on Korean American cuisine,” said Clark and Kim.
