AI Just Took Hundreds of Jobs From FICO Credit Score Company
AI just took hundreds of jobs from FICO, the credit score company, according to an October 6 filing report highlighting the layoffs.
Fair Isaac Corp. said it is slashing roughly 15% of its workforce, or around 570 positions. The company employs approximately 3,811 people globally.
FICO, originally Fair, Isaac and Company, is an American data analytics company based in Bozeman, Montana, focused on credit scoring services.
American might be familiar with the term ‘FICO score’, a measure of consumer credit risk, which has become a fixture of consumer lending in the United States.
The company cited AI as a reason for the layoffs as it aims to simplify its operations.
What Will Happen to Employees Amid the FICO Layoffs?
Employees will be compensated under FICO’s massive severance packages.
Approximately $27 million in pretax severance and related charges are expected to take place during Q4 this year.
This severance plan is expected to be completed by the end of Q3 2027.
Just last year, FICO cut 226 positions and issued $10.9 million in employee separation costs.
The reason for these new FICO layoffs has to do primarily with AI-driven product development. The company also doesn’t require substantial organizational layers.
As the company optimizes its processes and tools, it has less of a need for employees.
The FICO layoffs come during a period of growing competition from VantageScore.
FICO’s Financials Remain Strong Despite The Layoffs

Like many companies cutting jobs as they streamline their operations due to the ease of AI, it’s financials remain strong.
FICO’s revenue increased 26% to $674.2 million while its net income rose to $237.2 million from $181.8 million a year ago, per its June 30 quarter report.
The company attributed much of its business-to-business scoring growth to a higher unit price for mortgage origination scores.

“Much of that growth came from earning more per transaction. Now, major lenders are giving VantageScore a larger role, creating an alternative to the model that helped FICO command those prices,” reports National Mortgage Professional.
“The cuts arrive at an uncomfortable moment for a company whose scoring business is growing rapidly — but increasingly faces competition for that business.”
