A short selling firm now makes the decision to close down operations without any explanation as to why it is completely unwinding.
“So, why disband now?
There is not one specific thing—no particular threat, no health issue, and no big personal issue,” Hindenburg Research founder Nate Anderson wrote in a note.
The short selling firm is known for shorting companies who would essentially cheat investors one way or another.
Hindenburg’s most significant report was released in 2020, highlighting issues with the electric truck startup Nikola.
The report notably revealed that Nikola had rolled a prototype of its electric semi-truck down a hill.
Following this, Nikola’s founder and CEO, Trevor Milton, was sentenced to four years in prison for deceiving investors.
In 2019, Hindenburg also criticized the online orthodontics company SmileDirectClub for allegedly compromising customer safety by cutting corners in a specialized medical field.
This company ultimately went out of business in late 2023.
SmileDirectClub apologized to patients after announcing the closure was effective immediately at the time.
The company offered vague answers to existing customers about the future of their treatment.
“Unfortunately aligner treatment is no longer available through the SmileDirectClub platform.
All orders that have not yet shipped have been canceled at this time, and you will not receive your aligners,” the company wrote in a statement.
“If you wish to continue treatment outside of our platform, please consult your treating doctor or your local dentist with any questions around future aligner treatment.”
Despite no longer offering service, SmileDirectClub also said that SmilePay customers are expected to continue making monthly payments until their plan is paid off — a major blow to its customers.
Hindenburg published its first report in 2017.
In a recent statement, Anderson mentioned plans to share “materials and videos to open-source every aspect of our model and how we conduct our investigations.”
He expressed hope that by fully disclosing their process, in a few years, someone inspired by this transparency might reach out to him, driven by a similar passion and the courage to illuminate important issues, despite facing challenges.

Apparently, their last hit job, didn’t earn them the reputation & since Trump is heading, these companies will be buried, so they are closing their shops.
Definitely what it seems like.
