A Massive Company Now Announces Unexpected Layoffs in Arkansas

A massive company now announces unexpected layoffs in Arkansas after it let go of several thousands in other states.

Tyson Foods, the $53 billion meat industry giant headquartered in Arkansas, is facing calls for a boycott amid accusations that it is closing U.S. factories while actively recruiting asylum seekers to fill jobs.

The Arkansas-based company has closed several plants across multiple states in recent months, eliminating over 1,600 jobs.

In May 2022, Tyson closed facilities in Arkansas and Virginia, with more closures announced for locations in Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, and Missouri set for the first half of 2024.

The company has since moved to hire thousands of asylum seekers who have arrived in New York and other cities after entering the United States.

The company employs about 42,000 immigrants among its 120,000-strong US workforce.

“They’re very, very loyal. They’ve been uprooted, and what they want is stability—a sense of belonging.

We would like to employ another 42,000 if we could find them,” said Garrett Dolan, Tyson’s human resources leader, referring to the asylum seeker hires.

The perceived prioritization of immigrant labor over Ameri

can workers has sparked outrage, with calls for a boycott of Tyson products gaining traction online and from some activist groups.

However, Tyson vehemently disputes allegations of wrongdoing regarding immigration.

“Tyson Foods is strongly opposed to illegal immigration, and we led the way in participating in the two major government programs to help employers combat unlawful employment, E-Verify and the IMAGE program.

Since being founded in 1935 in Arkansas, Tyson Foods has created jobs and employed millions of people in states all across America.

Today, Tyson Foods employs 120,000 team members in the U.S., all of whom are required to be legally authorized to work in this country.

We have a history of strong hiring practices, and anybody who is legally able is welcome to apply to open job listings” the company stated.

America First Legal, a conservative action group launched by former Trump administration officials, warned Tyson that it could be breaking the law by favoring foreign-born workers over Americans.

“It is ILLEGAL under federal law to discriminate against American citizens based on their citizenship in favor of non-citizens of any kind when it comes to employment,” the legal action group posted online.

A massive company now announces more store closures for 2024 after closing dozens of locations last year.

“These stores lose tens of millions of dollars a year, and their annual losses nearly doubled in just the last five years,” Walmart said in a press release.

They added, “We have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the city [of Chicago]… It was hoped that these investments would help improve our stores’ performance.

Unfortunately, these efforts have not materially improved the fundamental business challenges our stores are facing.”

And in 2024, the retailer has already announced the closure of two California stores in January alone, including:

  • Walmart Neighborhood Market on Imperial Avenue, San Diego
  • Walmart at Fletcher Parkway, El Cajon

Now, it’s saying it will shutter two more locations, bringing the total store closure tally in 2024 to six.

Those stores are in the Baltimore area of Maryland and California.

So far, the total tally is:

  • 2121 Imperial Ave. in San Diego CA)
  • 605 Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon (CA)
  • 2753 E. Eastland Center Dr in West Covina (CA)
  • 4080 Douglas Blvd in Granite Bay (CA)
  • 1238 Putty Hill Ave in Towson (MD)
  • 3579 S. High St. in Columbus (OH)

Walmart cited poor performance as the reason for the two most recent closures, though it did not go into further detail.

I also live in Arkansas. Tyson has been a great company for Arkansas for decades but if they think they can favor illegals for American citizens they are for a rude reality ahead. I too, would support a boycott of Tyson! Americans matter! We are sick to death of this fn illegal immigration destroying so many aspects of our life. When is the glass full! We’ll, many years ago! Citizens jobs come first! Also, don’t guve citizenship to someone who broke our laws 10 yrs ago and think that works!

Thank you for the article I’m in Arkansas and when I heard what Tyson did to its American workers in Perry Iowa I knew at that moment that I would never knowingly purchase another Tyson product.

“asylum seekers”?? Lol, this nonsense is obvious propaganda. C’mon, do you expect rational people to believe Tyson is closing plants in Arkansas because they want to hire “asylum seekers” in New York? Just say “I hate immigrants” and move on, ffs.
