A famous and iconic coffee shop now closes in California after 75 years in business, leaving loyal fans in dismay.
Snow White Cafe shuts its doors for good after over 75 years in business, leaving ‘phone lines disconnected’ and ‘the place gutted’.
News that the Snow White Cafe had reportedly closed was announced via Facebook early Sunday morning.
“Goodbye Snow White Cafe,” a post by Vintage Los Angeles on Facebook read.
Included in the post were several photos of the cafe which boasted a mural dedicated to Snow White and her seven faithful dwarf companions.
News of the closure was met with dismay from several of the group’s followers.
“Another Hollywood landmark in less than a week,” one user wrote.
“Can’t wait for the generic dispensary or overpriced urban boutique to take its place like we don’t have enough of those.”
“This is sad. I do hope someone saved the sweet artwork inside,” a second person commented.
“I truly feel the best hamburger I ever ate was from Snow White’s Cafe,” a third person lamented.
“And the place had such a great vibe.
The L.A. that I lived in a long time ago seems to be dying.”
The restaurant was located on Los Angeles’ famed Hollywood Boulevard and was open from noon to midnight.
Also featured in the post was a photo of what appears to be the restaurant with the Disney princess mural missing.
According to the restaurant’s still active website, the eatery opened in 1946 and was a “Hollywood institution.”
“Whether you’re a Disney fan or just looking for a great meal in a unique setting, the Snow White Cafe is a must-visit for anyone in Hollywood,” the website reads.
“Stop by today and take a step back in time.”
The website claims that the cafe was initially opened by a friend of Walt Disney’s, who petitioned animators of the 1937 film to paint the murals depicting scenes from the film on the walls.
When attempting to reach the cafe via phone, the U.S. Sun reports that the line was directed to a number that appeared to be disconnected.
