A Massive Retailer is Now Laying Off Hundreds in Georgia

A massive retailer is now laying off hundreds in Georgia as it prepares to close two major locations, according to a WARN filing.

New Walmart closures are already slated for next month, as the company just confirmed two upcoming closures for the metro Atlanta area, Atlanta News First reported on June 13.

The supercenter at 4725 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. in Dunwoody and Neighborhood Market at 3101 Roswell Rd. in Marietta will both shut down on July 12.

The stores didn’t meet financial expectations, according to a Walmart spokesperson.

“The prices on everything were better than any other store around,” Dunwoody resident Shelly Jacobs told RoughDraft Atlanta.

“This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a careful and thoughtful review process,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them.”

The two stores’ nearly 400 employees will be paid through Sept. 20 and can transfer to other locations.

If they don’t change stores, they will receive severance pay, Walmart said.

In connection with these closures, Walmart has filed two Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices with the Georgia Department of Labor.

The notices indicate that a total of 295 employees in Dunwoody and a total of 92 employees in Marietta will be laid off as a result of the store closures.

The closures have sparked concern among local residents who valued the convenience and affordability that Walmart provided.

As Walmart navigates these changes, the company says it remains committed to serving its Georgia customer base through its extensive network of stores and Sam’s Clubs across the state.

An unexpected restaurant now abruptly closes 7 locations in one state after revealing plans to shutter a total of 36.

TGI Fridays is closing a total of seven restaurants in one state as part of the company’s ongoing growth strategy.

This comes after the chain abruptly closed 36 locations across 12 states in at the beginning of the year, per The-Sun.

The restaurant chain will pull the plug on seven locations across the state of New Jersey in the coming weeks.

Today, Fridays will welcome in famished diners at its location in Brick for the final time.

“As we continue along our path of transformation to revitalize the Fridays brand and implement a long-term growth strategy, we see a bright future for TGI Fridays,” said Weldon Spangler, CEO of TGI Fridays earlier this week.

“We are at the helm of a pivotal moment that will allow us to explore boundless advancement, expansion, and innovation to keep delivering ‘That Fridays Feeling’ that our fans know and love.”

Before the closures, TGI Fridays had about 270 US locations, according to the company’s website.

“As part of the store closures, TGI Fridays is offering more than 1,000 transfer opportunities, which represents over 80% of total impacted employees,” the company previously said in a statement.

“Our top priority has always been delivering a superior experience for each and every TGI Fridays guest, and we’ve identified opportunities to optimize and streamline our operations to ensure we are best positioned to meet – and exceed – on that brand promise,” said Ray Risley, US president and chief operating officer, in the release.

Eight other locations were sold to former CEO Ray Blanchette, a longtime stakeholder who will acquire the previously corporate-owned restaurants.

The sale comes as major changes have been made to the brand’s leadership, including the news of Weldon Spangler being made CEO.

“As we continue along our path of transformation to revitalize the Fridays brand and implement a long-term growth strategy, we see a bright future for TGI Fridays,” said Spangler in a statement.

Have anybody at Wal-Mart really sat and thought how the closing of these two stores are going to impact the community. They mentioned Sams club, but what about the the people who can not afford the price of club dues,or don’t need a jar of mayo that feed 300.The community will suffer greatly. These are areas that Marta run, meaning transportation is already an issue. So now you want to them to spend bus fair to go to a different store,I’m sure they can buy a lot and go back home on the bus..
