
13 companies now announce thousands of unexpected layoffs in the state of Maryland, affecting over 4,000 workers by the year’s end.
It’s important to note that under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, employers with more than 100 full-time workers must provide a 60-day notice before laying off 50 or more employees at a single site.
So far in 2025, there has been approximately 7,580 WARN layoffs across a total of 62 businesses, per the state’s Department of Labor.

While Maryland may not be the state with the most reported job cuts this year, layoffs are now beginning to grow, placing the state in the Top 5 for 2025.
Below is a list of businesses laying off in Maryland in the coming weeks to months according to the latest WARN filings:
- Broadway Services. 1,047 job cuts by 6/30.
- S3 Share Service Solutions. 84 job cuts by 6/1.
- Compass Group USA. 123 job cuts by 5/23.
- Department of Health and Human Services. 2,695 job cuts by 5/30.
- Leidos Holdings. 35 job cuts by 6/1 – 6/30.
- American Institutes of Research. 12 job cuts by 6/1.
- USCC Management Services. 28 job cuts by 6/2.
- Guidehouse Digital. 90 job cuts by 11/30.
- Axient LLC. 47 job cuts by 5/31.
- Rite Aid Corporateion. 363 job cuts by 6/4.
- ASRC Federal Professional Services. 16 job cuts by 6/4.
- Frito-Lay. 56 job cuts by 7/12.
- Transaxle, LLC. 10 job cuts by 7/15.
Last year, Maryland saw approximately 6,005 WARN layoffs across a total of 68 businesses by November alone.
The companies laying off in the state during the holiday season included:
- Tate Access Floors, Inc. 32 job cuts by 1/8.
- Marriott International. 833 job cuts by 1/3.
- Allied Universal. 18 job cuts by 1/9.
- Louis Vuitton USA. 7 job cuts by 1/6.
- Intuitive Machines. 35 job cuts on 12/1.
- Lancaster Foods, LLC. 424 job cuts on 12/14.
“This is not patriotism,” Moore said, referring to the firing of thousands of federal workers in recent weeks.
“This is cruelty.”
