UPDATE: A Long Beach man has died in the custody of the police after crashing into a fence, authorities have confirmed.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who passed away while in the custody of the Long Beach Police Department.
This tragic incident unfolded after the man drove his vehicle into a fence.
Police received a call at approximately 5:58 PM on Friday, reporting that a vehicle had crashed into a fence at a residence located in the 5300 block of Cerritos Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man inside his vehicle, which was situated in the backyard of the home.
According to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), officers handcuffed the individual without using any force during the arrest.
Following the incident, the Long Beach Fire Department arrived to provide medical assistance and subsequently transported the man to a local hospital.
Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
As of now, authorities have not publicly disclosed the man’s identity, as they are in the process of notifying his family members.
Given that the man was handcuffed at the time of his death, the police are treating this case as an in-custody death.
This designation has prompted an investigation by homicide detectives, which is standard protocol in such situations.
In addition, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has been notified, ensuring that all necessary legal procedures are followed.
