LOCAL NEWS: A Rialto DUI suspect has now been charged with murder in a recent crash that killed two toddler girls, ages 3 and 4.
A tragic incident in Rialto has led to serious charges against a DUI suspect accused of causing the deaths of two young sisters in a car crash over the weekend.
Alexis Jose Garcia, a 28-year-old resident of San Bernardino, has been charged with two counts of murder, as announced by prosecutors on Tuesday.
The devastating crash occurred late Sunday night, just after 11 p.m., at the intersection of Walnut and Riverside Avenues.
According to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, Garcia is alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol when he ran a red light and collided with the family’s vehicle, resulting in the deaths of 3-year-old Alinah and 4-year-old Neveah Flores.
Despite being secured in car seats at the time of the crash, one of the girls was ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the impact.
Both sisters tragically lost their lives at the scene of the accident.
Their father sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, while their mother fortunately escaped without injury.
The loss of these two innocent lives has left their family and the community in mourning.
In addition to the murder charges, Garcia faces several other serious allegations, including two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, one count of hit-and-run resulting in death, and one count of DUI resulting in injury.
He is also charged with causing injury while operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding .08%.
Prosecutors have highlighted multiple special allegations against Garcia, including fleeing the scene after the crash, causing great bodily injury, and driving with a blood alcohol level of .15% or higher.
San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson expressed profound condolences to the family impacted by this tragedy.
“Those two little girls should be writing their letters to Santa, but instead their family is dealing with the unthinkable task of writing their eulogies.
We send our deepest condolences to their loved ones,” he stated, emphasizing the heartbreak surrounding the incident.
In response to the devastating loss, a GoFundMe account has been established to assist the Flores family with medical bills and funeral expenses.
The community has rallied to provide support during this incredibly difficult time, reflecting the compassion and solidarity that often emerges in the wake of such tragic events.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the case serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of impaired driving, as well as the profound impact such decisions can have on innocent lives.
The family of Alinah and Neveah Flores is left with an immeasurable void, and their story highlights the urgent need for continued efforts to combat drunk driving and protect vulnerable road users.
