More businesses now warn of upcoming layoffs in Ohio for 2025

More businesses now warn of upcoming layoffs in Ohio for 2025 according to the latest WARN filings with the state.

It’s important to note that under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, employers with more than 100 full-time employees are required to provide a 60-day notice before laying off 50 or more workers at a single location.

This law aims to protect employees by ensuring they have adequate time to prepare for the transition and seek new employment opportunities.

Employers must submit these notices to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, which keeps track of such layoffs.

These layoffs not only affect the employees directly involved but also have a ripple effect on the local economies, as reduced income can lead to decreased spending and further economic challenges.

Last year, more than 12,000 employees lost their jobs according to WARN data alone.

Below is a list of new businesses who have warned of upcoming job cuts this year:

  • American Freight Group LLC. 50 job cuts by 3/1.
  • Vimo, Inc. 3 job cuts by 2/19.
  • Big Lots Stores, Inc. 555 job cuts on 12/29/2024.
  • Spartech. 102 job cuts by 2/11.
  • Libra Industries. 17 job cuts by 2/11.
  • American Freight Group LLC. 62 job cuts by 2/3.
  • idX Corporation. 66 job cuts by 1/22.
  • American Sugar Refining. 90 job cuts by 1/11.
  • Mobis North America. 210 job cuts by 1/5.
  • KUKA Toledo Production Operations LLC. 160 job cuts by 1/5.
  • FCA US. 1,134 job cuts by 1/5.
  • PPC Flexible Packaging LLC. 68 job cuts by 1/3.

The announcement of these layoffs comes at a time when many people are still recovering from the impacts of previous economic disruptions.

Workers facing layoffs may find themselves in a difficult position, needing to navigate a competitive job market while also dealing with the emotional and financial stress that comes with job loss.

Keeping abreast of changes in the job market can help individuals prepare for potential shifts in their employment status.

As Ohio accommodates in 2025, the situation remains fluid, and the impact of these layoffs will likely continue to be felt in various sectors.
