A Massive Grocery Store in Pennsylvania is Now Closing

A massive grocery store in Pennsylvania is now closing after serving its community for over 45 years, sources report.

Shoppers at the local Wawa convenience store were alerted of the news with a sign on the door.

The Wawa in the Port Richmond neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is set to close this week, per Biz Journals.

Located at 3230 Richmond Street, the popular convenience store has been open for 45 years.

The store’s last day of operation is July 9.

Local shoppers were alerted to the abrupt closure with a notice on the door.

The Port Richmond shuttering is the eighth Wawa closure in Philadelphia in recent years.

Wawa has around 50 other locations in Philadelphia.

The grocery store is also located in the following states, per Scrape Hero.

New Jersey: 288

Florida: 280

Pennsylvania: 253

Virginia: 110

Maryland: 65

Delaware: 49

District of Columbia: 5

However, Wawa isn’t the only convenience store that is closing nationwide.

7-Eleven has announced plans to shutter a total of 272 US locations this year, per CBS News.

Though the specific locations and closure dates have yet to be disclosed, fans were disappointed to hear about the impending closures.

“7-Eleven closing 270+ stores? We’re doomed,” wrote one fan on X.

Last year, the popular convenience chain closed 184 locations nationwide.

If the closures proceed as planned, 7-Eleven will close 88 more stores than last year.

Despite the closures, the chain also intends to open over 270 new locations this year, per MSN.

Amid fears of a retail apocalypse, popular convenience store and pharmacy Walgreens is not safe from the wave of closures across the US either.

Up to 25% of its roughly 8,600 US locations will be closed, Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth told The Wall Street Journal.

“We recognize where we are is a turnaround,” said Wentworth.

“We recognize that we need to be focused on what are the parts of the business that we believe are contributing and have a future, and some of those need to change,” he added.

An unexpected restaurant now abruptly closes 7 locations in one state after revealing plans to shutter a total of 36.

TGI Fridays is closing a total of seven restaurants in one state as part of the company’s ongoing growth strategy.

This comes after the chain abruptly closed 36 locations across 12 states in at the beginning of the year, per The-Sun.

The restaurant chain will pull the plug on seven locations across the state of New Jersey in the coming weeks.

Today, Fridays will welcome in famished diners at its location in Brick for the final time.

“As we continue along our path of transformation to revitalize the Fridays brand and implement a long-term growth strategy, we see a bright future for TGI Fridays,” said Weldon Spangler, CEO of TGI Fridays earlier this week.

“We are at the helm of a pivotal moment that will allow us to explore boundless advancement, expansion, and innovation to keep delivering ‘That Fridays Feeling’ that our fans know and love.”

Before the closures, TGI Fridays had about 270 US locations, according to the company’s website.

“As part of the store closures, TGI Fridays is offering more than 1,000 transfer opportunities, which represents over 80% of total impacted employees,” the company previously said in a statement.

“Our top priority has always been delivering a superior experience for each and every TGI Fridays guest, and we’ve identified opportunities to optimize and streamline our operations to ensure we are best positioned to meet – and exceed – on that brand promise,” said Ray Risley, US president and chief operating officer, in the release.

Eight other locations were sold to former CEO Ray Blanchette, a longtime stakeholder who will acquire the previously corporate-owned restaurants.

The sale comes as major changes have been made to the brand’s leadership, including the news of Weldon Spangler being made CEO.

“As we continue along our path of transformation to revitalize the Fridays brand and implement a long-term growth strategy, we see a bright future for TGI Fridays,” said Spangler in a statement.
