A carport fire has now burned 6 cars and 1 motorcycle in Sherman Oaks after a garden-style apartment building caught flame.
Early Thursday morning, firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a significant fire at a garden-style apartment building in Sherman Oaks, where flames engulfed six vehicles and a motorcycle parked in a carport.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. at the apartment complex located at 12940 W Burbank Blvd, just west of Coldwater Canyon.
Upon their arrival, fire crews quickly assessed the situation and moved to the rear of the two-story building, where the carport was situated.
LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey reported that firefighters quickly located the source of the flames and began efforts to extinguish the fire.
A total of 45 firefighters worked diligently over the course of 43 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which added a sense of relief to the chaotic morning. However, the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, leaving residents and authorities alike searching for answers.
As a precautionary measure, crews from the Department of Water and Power shut off electricity to nearby homes while they assessed potential damage to electrical lines in the vicinity.
This step was taken to ensure the safety of residents and firefighters during the ongoing emergency response.
Surveillance footage from the area revealed two individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts who approached the carport on bicycles shortly before and after the fire broke out.
This detail has raised questions among officials and residents, potentially indicating that the fire may have been set intentionally or resulted from suspicious activities.
One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted his harrowing experience of being jolted awake by a series of car alarms around 4 a.m.
“At first, I just found it suspicious,” he said.
“Then I heard an explosion, followed by another explosion. I looked out my window and could see the flames—they were taller than the building.”
His vivid description captures the intensity of the situation and the immediate danger posed by the fire.
As investigators work to determine the cause of the fire, residents in the area are left to reflect on the close call and the impact such an event can have on their community.
The LAFD has urged anyone with additional information or surveillance footage related to the incident to come forward, as it may assist in uncovering the circumstances that led to the fire.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with fires, especially in densely populated areas like Sherman Oaks.
While the immediate threat has been contained, the community remains vigilant, hoping for swift answers as they recover from this unsettling event.
