LAX workers now hold a rally calling for a boost in wages as the holiday travel season kicks off, urging the city to raise pay from $25 an hour to $30 an hour.
Workers at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) are urging the L.A. City Council to approve a proposed ordinance aimed at significantly increasing their wages to $25 an hour, with plans to further raise it to $30 an hour by 2028.
This initiative, known as the Living Wage Ordinance, was introduced several months ago but was recently tabled during a council meeting.
It is set to be revisited on December 11.
In light of this ongoing discussion, airport workers organized a rally on Monday, coinciding with what is projected to be one of the busiest travel periods in history.
The gathering aimed to draw attention to the essential services provided by airport employees, including safety maintenance, aircraft cleaning, and baggage handling.
Many of these workers are represented by SEIU-United Service Workers West, a union advocating for better pay and working conditions.
Armando Munoz, a passenger service agent at LAX, expressed the frustration felt by many in the workforce.
“We’re going to keep doing this until the City Council stops prioritizing corporate interests over the needs of hard-working families,” he stated passionately during the rally.

Anton Farmby, vice president of SEIU-USWW, emphasized the integral role these workers play in the airport’s operations.
