Two Unexpected Companies Now Announce Layoffs in Georgia

Two unexpected companies now announce layoffs in Georgia according to WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notices.

It’s important to note that under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, an employer with more than 100 full-time workers must give 60 days’ notice before laying off 50 or more people at a single site.

Raven Transport Holding is advising that a total of 62 employees across Georgia will be laid off.

“We are writing to inform you that Raven Transport Holding, Inc. (“Raven”) will be shutting down its over-the-road fleet as well as its dedicated fleet.

All Raven employees, drivers, and staff who work the road fleet or dedicated fleet will be separated.

This action is expected to be permanent,” the company said in a statement.

In addition, Radial advised that a total of 96 employees in Georgia will be laid off on June 28 due to the acquisition of the customer service business.

It is anticipated that employees may get the opportunity to work for the new buyer.

Below is a list of other businesses laying off in Georgia this year:

  • Chemical Products Corporation has advised that 122 staff in Cartersville are being laid off.
  • Wellpath LLC is laying off 291 staff across Georgia.
  • Club Chef SE LLC is laying off 48 staff.
  • Sage Automotive Interiors has advised that 140 staff are being laid off due to a facility closure.
  • Aludyne is closing a facility in Columbus, resulting in 193 layoffs in June.
  • Bionano Genomics also filed a WARN notice with the Georgia Department of Labor advising of 76 layoffs.
  • Hollingsworth has advised that they are ceasing operations at a facility in Marietta due to losing a contract with Lockheed Martin, which resulted in 74 employees being laid off. However, there is some hope for those workers, with Lockheed Martin interviewing some displaced workers for positions.
  • The news isn’t as promising for Jindal Films employees. They are closing their facility in LaGrange in May, meaning all 98 staff working there will be laid off.
  • These notices follow just hours after FedEx filed a notice advising that 326 employees at a facility in Union City will be laid off. The mass layoff is expected to be permanent. Employees will be paid severance and offered opportunities at other FedEx facilities, including the one in Jackson, approximately 50 miles away.
  • Southside Communities Fire Protection is laying off 112 staff but fortunately they may be offered positions by Chatham County.

A massive clothing retailer is now closing all 540 stores in just six weeks after unexpectedly filing for bankruptcy.

Liquidation sales will be held at rue21 outlets across the US as bosses rush to clear the last remaining stock.

The clothing retailer has entered bankruptcy and bosses have announced plans to close all 540 remaining stores within six weeks, reports The US Sun.

It is the third time in less than 25 years the fashion retailer has entered bankruptcy, per Bloomberg.

Court documents seen by Reuters revealed the company has more than $190 million of debt.

The chain has 540 stores across the US and 4,900 workers are set to be impacted.

Outlets are to slam shut within four to six weeks, according to court papers.

Bosses also announced plans to sell the company’s intellectual property.

The company narrowly avoided going into bankruptcy in October 2022.

Chiefs filed for bankruptcy in 2017 as they rushed to clear around $700 million worth of debt.

Bosses shuttered 400 stores as well and renegotiated leases.

Execs identified the rise of online shopping and changing consumer trends as reasons behind the bankruptcy.

Michele Pascoe, the interim CEO, also alluded to the impacts of competition and inflation.

The company also filed for bankruptcy in 2002.

At its peak, the company had more than 1,000 stores across the US.

The chain has dozens of outlets across several states, including Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas.

The teen fashion retailer is not the only clothing chain that has entered bankruptcy over the past year.

Last month, Express chiefs filed for bankruptcy, and at least 100 stores are set to close.
