Tragic incident in Fresno: Charges now filed against young man after a 2 and a half year old toddler used his firearm to kill its mother.

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has formally charged Andrew Isaac Sanchez with three crimes connected to the incident, which involved a toddler accidentally shooting and killing its mother.
Details of the Incident
On December 6, around 5:30 p.m., a 22-year-old woman named Jessinya Mina was fatally shot by her 2½-year-old child in an apartment located at the intersection of Fresno Street and San Jose Avenue.
The police reported that Mina succumbed to a single gunshot wound to her upper body.
At the time of the incident, she was living in the apartment with Sanchez, her toddler, and an 8-month-old infant.
Charges Against Sanchez
Sanchez faces two counts of child abuse in addition to a charge of first-degree criminal storage of a firearm.
Investigations revealed that Sanchez had left a loaded 9mm handgun unsecured in their bedroom, a location that was accessible to the children.
According to law enforcement officials, the toddler, while handling the firearm, inadvertently pulled the trigger, resulting in Mina being shot.
Legal Proceedings
Sanchez was arraigned in court on Friday morning, where he entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against him.
Currently, he is out of custody but is under pretrial supervision.
The court has scheduled his next appearance for February 6.
Additionally, a criminal protective order has been put in place to ensure the safety of those involved.
If convicted, Sanchez could face a maximum sentence of up to eight years in prison.
