The events leading to the charges began on January 6, when Gamboa contacted authorities himself, revealing that he had killed his girlfriend.

Upon their arrival at the Palm Garden Hotel shortly before 11 p.m., deputies discovered the lifeless body of 24-year-old Aliya Pitts.
Reports from KTLA indicate that she had sustained both sharp and blunt force injuries, along with signs suggesting probable strangulation. The circumstances surrounding her death paint a grim picture of violence.
