A former Santa Paula school vice principal has now been accused of molesting 8 kids in the Los Angeles area, leading to his arrest Friday morning.
In a shocking development, an assistant principal in the Los Angeles area was arrested on Friday morning for allegedly molesting eight children at an elementary school in Santa Paula.
David Lane Braff Jr., a 42-year-old resident of Thousand Oaks, faces serious charges, including 17 felony counts of lewd acts on a child under the age of 14, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
Braff served as a school counselor at McKevett Elementary in Santa Paula from 2015 to 2019, during which time he is accused of committing these heinous acts against children aged between 6 and 10 in a school office.
The allegations surfaced after prosecutors and law enforcement officials initiated an investigation last month, prompted by concerns raised about Braff’s conduct.
In addition to the felony charges, Braff faces special allegations that indicate the crimes were premeditated and executed with a degree of sophistication.
Prosecutors have noted that the children in his care were particularly vulnerable, heightening the severity of the charges against him.
“We intend to vigorously prosecute this case and encourage others to come forward who may have information about additional victims and crimes,” said Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko in a statement.
“Given the defendant’s history of recurring access to children, this investigation and prosecution remain ongoing.”
This statement underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the district attorney’s commitment to seeking justice for the victims.
At the time of his arrest, Braff was employed as an assistant principal and school counselor at Ingenium Charter Middle School in Winnetka.
His employment history is currently under review, with authorities suspecting that he may have worked at other schools throughout Southern California and possibly volunteered for youth-oriented organizations.
Braff is currently being held at the Ventura County Jail, with bail set at a staggering $3 million.
He is scheduled for arraignment on Monday, where further legal proceedings will commence.
The news of this arrest has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of children in educational environments.
Parents and guardians are left reeling as they grapple with the implications of such a serious breach of trust by someone in a position of authority.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with additional information about Braff or potential other victims to come forward.
This case highlights the crucial need for vigilance in protecting children and ensuring that those in positions of trust are held accountable for their actions.
Further updates will be provided as more details emerge regarding the investigation and any additional charges that may be filed.
