July 24, 2025 — Recent reports have reignited scrutiny over Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s past associations with Jeffrey Epstein, prompted by a photograph from a 1994 New York Academy of Art gala showing Kennedy in attendance with Epstein.
While the image has fueled speculation, a detailed examination of available evidence provides context to Kennedy’s limited interactions with the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender.
The photograph in question, taken at a 1994 fundraiser at the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan, shows Kennedy alongside his then-wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, and Jeffrey Epstein.
The event was a high-profile gathering attended by numerous socialites, artists, and public figures, as reported by the Daily Mail.
At the time, Epstein was a wealthy financier known for mingling in elite circles, and his criminal activities were not yet public knowledge.
Kennedy has stated that his presence at such events was typical for a prominent New Yorker, noting, “I ran across Jeffrey Epstein at parties, I mean, at fundraisers, like the Robin Hood fundraiser in New York”.
Flights on Epstein’s JetKennedy has openly acknowledged taking two trips on Epstein’s private plane, often referred to as the “Lolita Express” due to its later association with Epstein’s crimes.
In a December 2023 interview on Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News, Kennedy detailed the trips: one in 1993 to Palm Beach, Florida, with his wife and two children to visit his mother, and another around 1994 or 1995 to Rapid City, South Dakota, for a family fossil-hunting trip.
He emphasized that both trips occurred “before anybody knew about Jeffrey Epstein’s nefarious issues” and that he was accompanied by family, not alone with Epstein.
A statement from Kennedy’s spokesperson to Newsweek corroborated this, noting that the Florida trip involved a limousine transfer to Epstein’s Palm Beach home before the Kennedy family proceeded to their own destination.
Juan Alessi, Epstein’s former house manager, confirmed in a deposition that Kennedy and his family visited Epstein’s Palm Beach property briefly during one such trip, with no indication of wrongdoing.
Mary Richardson Kennedy and Ghislaine Maxwell

Kennedy has mentioned that his late ex-wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, who died by suicide in 2012, had “some kind of relationship” with Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend and convicted accomplice.
The nature of this relationship remains unspecified, but it reportedly facilitated the Kennedy family’s access to Epstein’s plane.
Historical ties between the Kennedy and Maxwell families have also been noted, including Maxwell’s presence at the 1990 wedding of Kerry Kennedy and Andrew Cuomo, though this predates Epstein’s known criminal activities.
Epstein’s “Little Black Book”Epstein’s contact list, often called his “little black book,” included an entry for “Kennedy, Bobby & Mary,” alongside other Kennedy family members like Ethel Kennedy and the late Senator Ted Kennedy.
The book contained contacts ranging from socialites to politicians, as well as victims of Epstein’s crimes.
However, inclusion in the book does not imply involvement in Epstein’s illegal activities, as it reflected his broad social network.
Kennedy has consistently advocated for transparency regarding Epstein’s activities.
In his 2023 Fox News interview, he stated, “We should get real answers on what happened to Jeffrey Epstein and any of the high-level political people that he was involved with.
It should be absolutely transparent”.
He reiterated this stance in a podcast with Andrew Schulz, emphasizing that he had no concerns about disclosures related to his campaign.
Kennedy has also distanced himself from Epstein’s crimes, noting that his interactions occurred decades ago when Epstein’s criminal behavior was unknown.
The Broader Context of Epstein’s Network

Epstein cultivated relationships with numerous high-profile individuals, including former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, Prince Andrew, and academics like Harvard’s Lawrence Summers.
Many of these figures, like Kennedy, interacted with Epstein before his 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor or his 2019 arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.
Epstein’s ability to integrate into elite circles was well-documented, often leveraging his wealth and connections to deflect scrutiny.
Some reports have linked Kennedy’s Epstein association to other controversial figures he knew, such as Harvey Weinstein, Roger Ailes, O.J. Simpson, and Bill Cosby, as mentioned in a 2024 podcast with Andrew Schulz.
Kennedy clarified that these encounters were part of his broad social exposure as a New Yorker, stating, “You don’t know these people are swamp creatures until all this stuff comes out”.
Critics, including Joshua Eakle and Dan Pfeiffer, have questioned the judgment implied by these associations, but Kennedy’s comments were intended to contextualize his interactions, not endorse the individuals.
The evidence surrounding Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein points to limited, incidental interactions in the 1990s, primarily through social events and two family trips facilitated by his late wife’s acquaintance with Ghislaine Maxwell.
No verified records implicate Kennedy in Epstein’s criminal activities, and his transparency about these encounters aligns with his calls for full disclosure of Epstein’s network.
While the photograph and flight records have drawn attention, they reflect the broader reality of Epstein’s integration into elite circles before his crimes were exposed.
As discussions continue, Kennedy’s emphasis on transparency offers a path toward addressing lingering questions about Epstein’s influence.
