On September 3, 2025, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) faced a fierce attack from far-right influencer Laura Loomer, who labeled her a “traitor” and “fraud” for supporting a bipartisan effort to release Jeffrey Epstein’s investigative files, intensifying a rift within the MAGA movement.
Loomer, a prominent Trump ally, unleashed a scathing X post after Greene joined Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) at a Capitol Hill press conference with Epstein’s survivors, demanding transparency.
The backlash, which saw Loomer call Greene a “two-faced b—-” who used Trump to advance her career, underscores growing tensions in Trump’s base as the president resists releasing the files, despite a 2024 campaign promise, amid concerns about his own Epstein ties.
Loomer’s Attack and Greene’s Stance

Loomer’s vitriolic post on X accused Greene of teaming up with Trump critic Massie in a “calculated effort to smear President Trump and falsely suggest he’s protecting Jeffrey Epstein.”
She wrote, “MTG is a FRAUD, and a phony, two faced b—- who used Trump to advance her career,” escalating a feud that began in July when Loomer called Greene a “low life degenerate” and “whore” after Greene labeled Israel’s Gaza actions a “genocide.”
The attack followed Greene’s appearance at the September 3 press conference, where she declared, “It’s a scary thing to name names, but I’m not afraid to name names,” offering to read Epstein’s client list on the House floor.
Greene, typically a staunch Trump supporter, emphasized the non-partisan nature of the issue, stating, “It’s an issue that Republicans and Democrats should never fight about,” and called for justice for Epstein’s victims.
She joined four Republicans, including three women, in signing a discharge petition to force a House vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which requires the DOJ to release all documents in a searchable format.
Massie praised Greene as the “bravest woman in Congress” for leading the GOP effort.

Trump’s Resistance and MAGA Divide

Trump, who was friends with Epstein for over a decade, has faced mounting pressure over the files.
In July 2025, he dismissed the controversy as a “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” orchestrated by Democrats, despite promising their release during his 2024 campaign.
The DOJ’s July 7 memo, stating no “client list” exists and confirming Epstein’s 2019 suicide, drew backlash from MAGA figures like Loomer and Elon Musk, who demanded a special counsel.
A Quinnipiac poll showed 83% of Republicans want the files released, with 36% disapproving of Trump’s handling, per The New York Times.
Greene’s prior criticism of Trump’s Epstein stance has been inconsistent.
In July, she voted against a measure to open debate on releasing the files, prompting Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to call her “completely full of s—.”
She later told CNN, “Jeffrey Epstein is literally the most well-known, convicted pedophile in modern-day history,” and insisted on transparency.
Her July 8 X post questioned the DOJ’s claim about no client list, citing Ghislaine Maxwell’s sealed 97-page “little black book” with nearly 2,000 names.

Victims’ Plea and Political Fallout
At the Capitol event, survivors like Lisa Phillips announced plans to compile a confidential list of abusers, stating, “We know the names. Many of us were abused by them.”
The House Oversight Committee released 33,000 pages of DOJ files on September 2, but most were redacted or previously public, fueling cover-up allegations.
Trump, distracted by a meeting with Poland’s president, posted on Truth Social about Hamas hostages, seemingly to deflect from the Epstein issue.
Greene’s alignment with Massie, a Trump critic, and her clashes with MAGA figures like Loomer and Mark Levin, who called her a “Marxist-Islamist Jew-hater,” highlight GOP fractures, per The Daily Beast.
As the 2026 midterms approach, Greene’s defiance and the Epstein files push could erode Trump’s control over his base.
The bipartisan effort, needing just two more GOP signatures for the discharge petition, tests his administration’s transparency.
With economic woes and controversies like health concerns and D.C. policies mounting, the MAGA infighting, epitomized by Loomer’s attack on Greene, signals a volatile political landscape.
