In the latest chapter of Republican family feud that’s got everyone talking, South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace has gone nuclear on Florida colleague Cory Mills, branding him a “total stolen valor” fraud for allegedly puffing up his military record.
The ugly online brawl kicked off after Mills bucked party lines by voting against Mace’s bid to slap a censure on Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, exposing raw nerves over free speech, military creds, and who gets to play hero in the MAGA sandbox.
It all boiled over last week when the House, in a razor-thin 214-213 vote on September 17, tabled Mace’s resolution to condemn Omar for her comments following the sniper assassination of conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk on September 10.
Four Republicans, including Mills, crossed the aisle to kill the measure—Mace wasn’t having it.
Details of the Infighting
She fired off a barrage of X posts over the weekend and into Monday, twisting the knife by dredging up a May controversy where five soldiers called out Mills for embellishing the story behind his 2003 Bronze Star from Iraq.
Mace, the 47-year-old firecracker who’s no stranger to stirring the pot, didn’t pull punches.
In one blistering thread from her official @RepNancyMace account, she wrote: “Beginning to think nothing Cory Mills says is true.
This guy has been parading himself around as some sort of U.S. Army special ops covert Ranger sniper James Bond 007 elite commando for years and it’s not even remotely close.
He fabricated his resume, and stole stories from men who either gave their life for their country and can’t speak now or can’t speak for themselves due to their injuries.
‘Allegedly’ Total Stolen Valor.”
She kept the heat on, slamming Mills for what she called a weak defense: “I swear Cory Mills gets dumber with every statement he makes.
It’s almost like his brain short-circuits when he’s called out on his bulls–t.
This post doesn’t say or prove anything. This is what he does.
Blows hot air hoping no one will notice.
And you’re not allowed to question all of his many lies. He was not ‘blown up.’ This is what he does. Stolen Valor Cory Mills.”
Mills, the 45-year-old Army vet and fellow MAGA loudmouth, clapped back hard, defending his service and vote while accusing Mace of hypocrisy.
He argued Omar’s “vile and abhorrent” remarks on Kirk’s death were protected speech, unlike those from Rep. Rashida Tlaib that he saw as straight-up incitement.
Mills’s Rebuttal
To counter the valor jabs, Mills shared what he said was a letter from his “Team Leader” and photos from the Iraq incidents, insisting his Bronze Star for life-saving actions stands unchallenged.
But Mace wasn’t buying it.
She taunted him with a poll asking if Mills should even sit on the House Armed Services Committee amid the drama, and dropped a not-so-subtle threat: “We can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way. Up to you. #stolenvalor.”
In another post, she mocked his explanations as “just a waterfall of words, pablum and doublespeak. No real paperwork to back it up.”
The spat taps into a May NOTUS report where those five soldiers questioned Mills’ Bronze Star tale, saying he didn’t actually pull off the feats described—like saving lives under fire.
Mills has always pushed back, touting his combat tours and private security gigs abroad, but Mace’s pile-on has cranked up the volume, turning a policy dust-up into a full-blown credibility crisis.
For Mace, who’s built her brand on unfiltered takedowns—from clashing with Omar over Kirk to her own committee skirmishes—this feels like vintage Nancy, blending righteous fury with a dash of personal vendetta.
Mills, meanwhile, embodies the brash MAGA newcomer, but getting torched by a peer over his service record? That’s a gut punch that could linger, especially with midterms lurking.
As the dust settles—or doesn’t—this dust-up shines a spotlight on the GOP’s internal fractures: When does defending free speech cross into betrayal? And who gets to question a veteran’s scars?
In a party that loves to lionize its warriors, Mace’s accusations could draw blood, but they also risk making her look like the bully in the barracks.
Either way, it’s prime-time drama that’s got the Hill buzzing.
