Former Vice President Mike Pence has added his voice to a growing chorus of Republicans demanding the Trump administration release all files related to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender who died in 2019.
In a Wednesday interview with CBS News, Pence emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “I think the time has come for the administration to release all of the files regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation and prosecution.”
He stressed the importance of protecting victims’ identities, adding, “It’s important that we protect the names of the victims.
They should be excluded from any disclosure.”
Pence’s call for action comes as President Donald Trump faces mounting pressure from both allies and critics to make public the government’s records on Epstein.
The controversy intensified after the Justice Department and FBI issued a joint memo last week, asserting that Epstein died by suicide in his New York City jail cell in 2019 and that no evidence of a “client list” of associates involved in his crimes exists.
This statement has sparked skepticism among some Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, who has also publicly advocated for transparency.
Johnson, in a July 15 interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, said, “We should put everything out there and let the people decide.”
The Epstein case, which spans multiple administrations, began during the George W. Bush era and continued through Barack Obama’s presidency, as Pence noted in his CBS interview.
He rejected Trump’s claim that the controversy is a “hoax” orchestrated by Democrats, stating, “I know of no reason why this administration, once the victims’ names are protected, should not release all the files on Jeffrey Epstein.”
Trump, however, has dismissed the calls for further disclosure as a distraction, labeling it the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” in a Truth Social post and accusing some Republicans of aiding Democrats.

Trump Allies Seek Epstein File Disclosure
Prominent Republican figures, including Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie, have joined the push for transparency.
Greene has criticized the Justice Department’s stance, calling Epstein “the most famous pedophile in modern-day history” and insisting that the public will not accept the agency’s claim of no client list.
Massie is working with Greene to force a House vote on releasing the complete Epstein files through a discharge petition, a congressional maneuver requiring 218 signatures to proceed.
The Justice Department’s recent memo has also drawn scrutiny due to earlier statements from Attorney General Pam Bondi, who in February claimed to have Epstein’s client list “on my desk” for review.
This apparent contradiction has fueled public distrust, with a Reuters/Ipsos poll indicating that 69% of Americans believe details about Epstein’s clients are being concealed by the federal government.
Pence, who served as Trump’s vice president during his first term, has maintained a nuanced relationship with the president since their falling out over the 2020 election.
His latest remarks align with a broader trend of Republicans, including Senator Josh Hawley and conservative influencer Laura Loomer, pressing for accountability.
Hawley has questioned the Justice Department’s claims, suggesting that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s convicted associate, should testify.
The Epstein saga continues to roil Trump’s base, with some supporters expressing frustration by burning their MAGA hats, as reported by The Guardian.
Despite Trump’s insistence that the controversy is “boring” and driven by “bad people,” the issue remains a flashpoint, with figures like Elon Musk, a former Trump ally, publicly speculating about the contents of the files.
As calls for transparency grow, the Trump administration faces a delicate balancing act.
Pence’s remarks underscore a rare point of agreement among a diverse group of Republicans: the public deserves access to the facts about Epstein’s crimes and associates, provided victims’ privacy is safeguarded.
“Anyone who participated or was associated with this despicable man ought to be held up to public scrutiny,” Pence said.
