Residents are now being evacuated in the IE as a brush fire grows after erupting on Thanksgiving day, quickly spreading across 250 acres.
A significant brush fire, known as the Canyon Crest Fire, broke out in Fontana on Thanksgiving and has rapidly expanded, now affecting an estimated 250 acres.
The blaze was first reported around 5:30 p.m. near Canyon Crest Drive and Weeping Willow Lane, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Initially, fire officials estimated the fire’s size at around 10 acres.
However, by late Thursday evening, the flames had surged to approximately 85 acres as they spread into Jurupa Valley.
By Friday morning, the situation worsened significantly, with estimates indicating that the fire had more than doubled in size, reaching 250 acres.
As of now, containment efforts remain at 0%, highlighting the challenges faced by fire crews on the ground.
In response to the rapidly evolving situation, an evacuation warning was issued for residents in Riverside County.
The warning covers an area north of the 60 Freeway, east of Country Village Road, south of the county line, and west of Sierra Avenue.
Local authorities have established a care and reception center at Jurupa Valley High School, located at 10551 Bellegrave Avenue near Etiwanda Avenue, to assist those impacted by the fire.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time, providing some relief amid the chaos.
However, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine what sparked the blaze.
Firefighters are working diligently to contain the fire, but the rapid expansion poses significant challenges.
