On September 4, 2025, a House task force dedicated to government transparency announced a pivotal hearing scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, in Washington, D.C., to probe unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), commonly known as UFOs.
Led by Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), the House Oversight and Government Reform’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets is pushing for “maximum transparency” from the Pentagon regarding UAP sightings and investigations.
The hearing, featuring testimonies from Air Force and Navy veterans alongside journalist George Knapp, follows a 2023 session where whistleblowers alleged government cover-ups of UAP data, reigniting public and congressional demands for answers about potential national security threats.
Details of the Upcoming Hearing

The hearing will focus on disclosures from the Department of Defense’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), established to investigate UAPs, per The Independent.
Luna emphasized the public’s right to know, stating, “The American people deserve maximum transparency from the federal government on sightings, acquisitions, and examinations of UAPs and whether they pose a potential threat to Americans’ safety.”
She added that whistleblowers should be free to share details on UAP-related spending and classification policies without fear of retribution.
Witnesses include Air Force veterans Jeffrey Nuccetelli and Dyland Borland, Navy veteran Alexandro Wiggins, who previously discussed UAP encounters, and George Knapp, a prominent figure in the UFO disclosure community and frequent guest on Coast to Coast AM.
The event builds on a 2023 House Oversight subcommittee hearing where retired Major David Grusch claimed the U.S. government had reverse-engineered non-human technology and recovered “non-human biologics” from crash sites, citing the need for a secure setting for further evidence and information.
Why UFO Investigations Are Now Being Taken Seriously
The push for transparency follows decades of secrecy allegations.
A 2021 report by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence documented 144 UAP incidents since 2004, with 80 detected by multiple sensors, concluding most were physical objects but lacked evidence of extraterrestrial origins.
A 2023 NASA report echoed this, noting insufficient high-quality data to draw scientific conclusions.
The Pentagon has consistently denied claims of extraterrestrial craft or secret programs, with AARO stating in March 2025 that no verifiable evidence supports such assertions, per The Guardian.
Recent hearings, however, including one on November 13, 2024, led by Reps. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Glenn Grothman (R-WI), featured claims of secret UAP programs and injuries to government employees.
Witnesses like former DoD official Luis Elizondo alleged advanced non-human technology in U.S. possession, while Michael Gold, a former NASA official, stressed overcoming stigma to study unexplained sightings.

Public and Political Reactions
The issue has garnered bipartisan support, with lawmakers like Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) emphasizing national security over extraterrestrial speculation, per The Independent.
The September 9 hearing could intensify pressure on the Pentagon to declassify UAP data, especially as drone technology complicates sightings.
Luna’s task force aims to protect whistleblowers and ensure public access to information, potentially reshaping perceptions of government secrecy.
As global tensions and domestic challenges mount, the outcome could influence public trust and national security policy ahead of the 2026 midterms.
