Donald Trump now says he’s been the best president for the black population since Lincoln when answering questions in Chicago.
ABC News journalist Rachel Scott, asked Trump why Black voters should trust him after he made countless derogatory comments about minorities.
“I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit,” Trump said at the live Pennsylvania rally.
There was a smattering of boos in the crowd as Trump expressed his criticisms.
Trump claimed that he’s done so much for the Black community and then said he was invited to the convention under “false pretenses” because he was told Harris would be there.
She was invited but wasn’t able to participate.
“I think it’s a very rude introduction. I don’t know exactly why you would do something like that,” Trump told the reporter.
“I have answered the question. I have been the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln.”
The National Association of Black Journalists, facing backlash for inviting Trump to the convention, said it is in conversations with the Harris campaign to have a Q&A session with her, either in person or virtually, in September.
A source familiar with Harris’ plans yesterday said she couldn’t attend the convention in person this week due to scheduling conflicts.
“The NABJ team unfortunately denied a request for the VP to take part in a fireside chat virtually, or to host an in person fireside chat with the VP at a later date,” the source said.
In a statement this morning, NABJ president Ken Lemon said, “It has always been our policy to ensure that candidates know that an invitation is not an endorsement.
We also agreed that while this race is much different — and contentious — so are the consequences.”

Donald Trump is now returning to Chicago since the 16′ protests led him to flee the rally at the University of Illinois-Chicago campus.
Former President Donald Trump is set to participate in a panel discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in Chicago.
This will mark only the second time Trump has visited the city since 2016, when massive protests forced him to cancel a campaign rally at the University of Illinois-Chicago campus.
The panel is scheduled for noon on Wednesday at the Hilton Chicago on Michigan Avenue.
Trump will take questions from three journalists – Rachel Scott of ABC News, Harris Faulkner of Fox News, and Kadia Goba of Semafor – about the “most pressing issues facing the Black community.”
Trump has rarely visited Chicago since his presidency.
He traveled to the city only once as president, in October 2019, and has not returned since losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden or launching his bid for a second term.
The upcoming panel discussion represents a return to the city for Trump, which has been the site of significant protests against him in the past.
This event will provide an opportunity for the former president to engage with the Black community and the media on key issues.
“While NABJ does not endorse political candidates as a journalism organization, we understand the serious work of our members, and welcome the opportunity for them to ask the tough questions that will provide the truthful answers Black Americans want and need to know,” NABJ President Ken Lemon said in a statement.
Democrats are set to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris for president at the party’s convention Aug. 19-22 in Chicago. Harris was also invited to participate in the convention and “her confirmation is pending,” according to a statement from NABJ leaders.
Mayor Brandon Johnson, who is an enthusiastic supporter of Harris, said in a statement the city was prepared to protect Trump, who survived an assassination attempt on July 13 in Pennsylvania.
“My administration’s values and practice are in complete opposition to former President Donald Trump’s agenda, but I want the people of Chicago to know that city departments and agencies are fully prepared to uphold safety during his scheduled visit,” Johnson said.
Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression and other groups announced plans to protest Trump’s appearance, which comes one day before the annual Lollapalooza music festival is set to take over Grant Park, which is across the street from the hotel, per WTTW.
In his statement announcing he had accepted NABJ’s invitation, Trump’s campaign said he accomplished more “more for Black Americans than any other president in recent history by implementing America First policies on the economy, immigration, energy, law and order, and foreign policy.”
“Black voters know that President Trump is the only presidential candidate who can deliver results on day one because he already has, including landmark unemployment rates for Black Americans, increased median income for Black households, historic permanent funding for HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), comprehensive bipartisan criminal justice reform, and nearly $50 billion in funds to revitalize Opportunity Zones,” according to the Trump campaign statement.
