LOCAL NEWS: Two have been injured in a reported Riverside freeway shooting near University Avenue, causing the closure of all lanes at the time.
The 215 Freeway was reopened Saturday morning in Riverside after authorities responded to a report of a shooting that led to an hourslong closure of the interstate.
During investigations like this, authorities must collect the rounds of bullets to identify important information in efforts to trace perpetrators.
However, the California Highway Patrol has not yet confirmed whether a shooting took place.
The incident was reported shortly before 2 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, close to University Avenue.
A witness indicated that they heard a crash followed by as many as six gunshots, according to a CHP incident log.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene, and a SigAlert was issued, resulting in the closure of all lanes as the investigation began.
This caused significant traffic delays, with backups extending to the 91 Freeway.
News footage from the scene showed a vehicle with a shattered rear windshield.
At least two individuals were transported by ambulance, although their conditions remain unknown at the time.
The SigAlert was lifted around 6:30 a.m., but details regarding the events leading up to the crash are still unclear, and no arrests have been made related to the incident.
This is a developing story.
