Layoffs in Illinois now surge before the holidays as 8 businesses prepare to to cut more than 1,000 jobs in the month of December.
It’s crucial to recognize that under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, employers with more than 100 full-time employees are required to provide a 60-day notice prior to laying off 50 or more individuals at a single location.
This notice must be submitted to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, ensuring that affected employees have some time to prepare for the transition.

This timing raises concerns about the impact on families during what is traditionally a festive season.
