An ex-SoCal deputy now commits suicide after abuse indictment following an arrest for allegedly attempting to engage in sexual activities with a minor.
Earlier this month, a disturbing incident unfolded involving a deputy sheriff from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department regarding Anthony Russo, a 52-year-old officer.
Following his arrest, the situation took a tragic turn, culminating in Russo’s death by suicide.

On December 11, Russo was apprehended at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where he was employed at the time.
His arrest was the result of an undercover sting operation initiated by investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD).
The operation was prompted by a tip received on December 10, leading an investigator to pose as a 15-year-old minor.
According to the sheriff’s department, the investigator shared explicit material and expressed a desire to meet for sexual acts, which led to the charges against Russo.
Following his arrest, Russo was released on bail after posting a $500,000 bond.
He faced serious legal repercussions, including a criminal charge for knowingly disseminating harmful material.
The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed two felony counts against him.
